CGVS launches new website

As the central asylum authority in Belgium, the CGRS wants to familiarize visitors, in a user-friendly and accessible way, with its work and with the Belgian asylum procedure.

For the first time, the CGRS also provides information on its protection policy regarding a number of important themes and specific countries of origin.

Customer-friendliness

From the start, the new website was conceived from the reader’s perspective. Asylum applicants, lawyers, journalists and other interested persons can easily navigate the new website and find information that is relevant to them. A visual representation of the asylum procedure enables the visitor to follow and understand all the steps in the asylum process.

Policy information

The core task of the CGRS consists of assessing asylum applications and deciding whether or not to grant international protection. As part of its transparency effort, the CGRA publishes a selection of country reports and policy notes. The site also provides background information on themes such as gender, internal flight alternative …).

European framework

With its new website, the CGRS also wants to contribute to the harmonization of asylum policies within the EU and to a Common European Asylum System. More transparency is also intended to give the national and international public a clearer idea of the grounds on which the CGRS grants international protection. This should lead to a greater convergence of national asylum systems so that asylum applicants with similar asylum motives will have the same protection opportunities, regardless of the member state in which they present themselves.

For all these reasons, the EU has financially supported this project through the European Refugee Fund.
