The CGRS has published the asylum figures for January 2026.
Applications for international protection
- In January, the Immigration Office registered 2,256 applicants for international protection. Each person (including children) is counted separately.
- In January 2026, Afghanistan, Palestine and Congo (DRC) lead the top the top 10 countries of origin of applicants for international protection. Turkey, Cameroon, Eritrea, Burundi, Guinea, Niger and Syria complete the top 10.
Decisions
- In January 2026, the CGRS took 1,735 decisions, concerning a total of 2,183 persons.
- In January 2026, the protection rate amounted to 25,2%.
Workload
- The total workload of the CGRS corresponds to the number of cases in which the CGRS has not yet taken a decision. At the end of January 2026, the total workload amounted to 24,594 cases (31,313 persons). In view of the current inflow and the expansion of the workforce (more applications are being processed) 6,500 dossiers can be considered as a normal caseload. The actual backlog amounts to 18,094 cases.
