Asylum statistics February 2015

The CGRS has published its figures for the month of February 2015.

The following information can be taken from these statistics:

  • In February 2015, 1,211 asylum applications were filed in Belgium, i.e. an decrease of 7.8 % in comparison with January 2015.
  • 396 (32.7 %) of the 1,211 asylum applications registered in February are multiple asylum applications.
  • In February the main countries of origin were Syria (144 applications, 11.9 %), Afghanistan (111 applications, 9.2 %), Kosovo (94 applications, 7.8 %), Rusland (86 applications, 7.1 % and Iraq (70 applications, 5.8 %). Guinea (4.8 %), Albania (3.2 %), RD Congo (also 3.2 %), Ukraine (2.7 %), Somalia (2.8 %) and the asylum seekers whose nationality is undetermined (2.6 %) complete the top 10 of countries of origin.
  • In February, the total amount of decisions taken by the CGRS amounted to 1,469 decisions, 408 of which were taken as part of the processing of multiple applications (167 decisions taking the case into consideration and 241 decisions refusing to take the case into consideration).
  • Among the 1,061 other decisions (decisions on the substance) taken by the CGRS in February, 524 decisions granted refugee status and 110 decisions granted subsidiary protection. In January 2015, the protection rate amounts to 59.8 % (634 positive decisions out of 1,061 decisions on the substance).
  • At the end of February, the total workload of the CGRS consisted of 6,244 cases. 3,900 cases can be considered as a normal workload. The actual workload consists of 2,344 cases.
