Due to recent events in Syria, the COI and the policy paper regarding this country may no longer be valid.
In the light of these events, the CGRS decided on 9 December 2024 to partially suspend the processing of cases of applicants from Syria: decisions are suspended, with the exception of decisions concerning beneficiaries of a protection status in another EU Member State.

Ce document présente des informations sur les possibilités de voyager depuis Bruxelles vers Bamako ainsi que sur les possibilités de déplacement pour rejoindre les régions du sud du Mali à partir de la capitale. Dans la dernière partie, il traite des retours de ressortissants maliens organisés par le gouvernement en 2023 et 2024. Pour élaborer ce COI Focus, le Cedoca s’est appuyé sur des informations publiques disponibles en novembre 2024. Le Cedoca a clôturé ses recherches le 26 novembre 2024. Ce rapport constitue une mise à jour du COI Focus du 26 avril 2024 portant le titre Mali. Possibilités de retour : liaisons aériennes vers Bamako.

The purpose of this report is to provide relevant information in view of the assessment of international protection, including refugee status and subsidiary protection.
The report covers the period of 1 October 2023 – 25 October 2024. Events taking place after the end of the reference period have not been included.
The report’s first chapter provides information on an overview of the country, covering aspects such as geography, ethnic groups, and the state structure. The second chapter focuses on political developments, while the third chapter details the main actors involved in the conflict, including Pakistan's armed forces and non-state armed groups. The fourth chapter provides information on the security situation, with a focus on regional variations. The fifth chapter provides information on the structure and functioning of the judiciary. The sixth chapter focuses on the treatment of certain profiles and groups of population and the seventh chapter addresses the socio-economic and humanitarian situation, and the final chapter provides information on the situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

Albania

Although domestic violence affects all segments of the population in Albania, women who are financially dependent on their husband or partner are especially concerned. Economic problems, excessive drinking and divorce situations are often the cause of violence in the family sphere.

Cedoca carried out a fact-finding mission to Albania from 13th March to 21st March 2017 in order to collect information. The information in this report is obtained from Cedoca’s interlocutors during the fact-finding mission and is supplemented with information from various international reports, specialized literature and online sources.
Algeria

Le présent rapport est une mise à jour du COI Focus daté du 28 septembre 2017 qui a pour titre Le retour des demandeurs d’asile déboutés. Il s’intéresse à l’attitude des autorités algériennes vis-à-vis de leurs ressortissants de retour après avoir quitté illégalement le pays et/ou avoir introduit une demande de protection internationale (DPI) en Belgique et/ou y avoir séjourné. Le traitement que réservent les autorités aux ressortissants de retour en raison de leur profil politique, ethnique, religieux ou terroriste ne fait pas l’objet de cette recherche.
Le retour dans le pays d’origine doit être envisagé lorsque l’étranger ne réunit plus les conditions requises pour son séjour en Belgique. Ce retour peut être volontaire ou forcé.
Ce rapport couvre l’année 2019 et les dix premiers mois de l’année 2020.

Consent is the determining factor for a marriage to be considered forced or free, according to most of the sources consulted by Cedoca. Forced marriage is known to take place in Algeria and the reason invoked is generally the need to marry a daughter who could otherwise bring dishonour upon her family.
